Lost Dog and a Little Light Reading

Jack helped me clean out the old magazines today...I guess help is a relative word!

Harley came over to visit today and play with Hokie....Jack decided we REALLY needed to take Harley for a walk, even though he was outside in the yard with Hokie most of the day. Since we didn't take Harley out on the leash, Jack started dragging it around the house...poor guy looked like he lost his dog all day!

Fountain Fun

Yesterday we took a day trip down to National Harbor and the Gaylord Hotel. They have a very nice indoor pool, but even better, a fountain playground! Not only is this super fun for the kids, but parents don't have to go in! Way better than the pool! These fountains stop, start, and change height frequently. When one of the fountains would stop, Jack would sit down and look at it, and inevitably it would start again and spray him in the face! Luckily he laughed when it happened!

Looking back at July

Since I'm a little behind on the blog, I thought I would share a compilation of photos from the last month!

Hanging out with a pretty girl on the boat!

Watching for the fire trucks

Using my new reusable cup from Starbucks for lunch!

Doing a little light reading.

Sporting my new (and a little big) fireman raincoat.

A Bowl Full of Cherries = A Pie!

I just had to share this with everyone. I bought a huge bag of cherries a few weeks back and kinda forgot about them. When I remembered, I decided I should probably use them all up quickly! And how better to use them all than in a pie! I make apple pie from scratch a lot, but that's normally it! I took some pics along the way....sorry I can't put a piece on here for you...but it was delicious!

My little cutie!

Fort Jackson

Jack has started to play on his own a bit more and has become very creative. Everyday, he wanders over to the dining room side of the kitchen bar and moves the bar stools out about 2 feet from the counter. He then walks back to his toys, picks up a book, and walks back to the bar stools. He then sits down, with his back against the counter, moves the bar stools in close to him, and reads his book and talks to himself for about 10 minutes. It's hilarious. Once he's done in his little fort, he moves the stools back to the wall and comes to get me.

Usually he scowls at me if I bother him in his fort, but I finally was able to get a picture of it!

No, we're still a Navy family...dont worry...but everyday we take a quick 10 minute trip to Fort Jackson.

A Monster of a Shoe

Jack has a new favorite accessory - his monster slippers. A birthday gift from his Great Aunt Alison, his monster slippers have sat on top of his dresser since April. Every once in a while I'd show them to him, but unfortunately he never had much interest until about 2 weeks ago. One morning he started pointing and asking for me to hand him something on his dresser. We went through everything, the baseball, the diaper rash cream, a book, lotion bottle...I couldn't figure it out...and then, I got it. I handed him one of the monster slippers and he immediately held it to his foot, waiting for me to put it on. After one was on, he pointed to the second. I put the second slipper on, and he held his feet up in the air and admired his slippers and chatted them up for about 2-3 minutes. That was the start of the slipper monster, so to speak. Every morning, for the last two weeks, we had to put our monster slippers on before we can leave our room. Luckily, he still lets me take them off and put his real shoes on before we leave the house, but I have a sneaking suspicion that soon, we are going to have to wear our monster slippers everywhere!

Happy Birthday America!!

What a great 4th! The weather was perfect (not crazy HOT like it was last week and is now) and Jack got to spend lots of time with Daddy - Daddy time is precious in July when he has to work like 18 hour days!

We started the day off at church, welcoming all the new plebes to the Naval Academy - and Jack got to play in the nursery with lots and lots of kids. While Daddy went to work we went home and had some lunch and a nap. After our nap, we headed over to Annapolis for some dinner with Daddy.

After dinner, we met Grammy and Pop at the Annapolis City 4th of July parade. Jack loved the fire trucks and the 20+ dogs ("puppy" as he says) in the parade.

After the parade we walked over to the Naval Academy to watch the fireworks. We were a little early, so Jack got to run around the field - and give Daddy quite a work out. Jack really enjoyed the fireworks this year and pointed them all out to us, saying "Whoa" each time they flashed and banged!
