Commissioning Week 2010 Kick Off

Well, we've kicked off Commissioning Week 2010! A week of crazy traffic, long lines, big crowds...and of course congratulating the USNA class of 2010 on their graduation and wishing them well in their new jobs! Oh yeah, and it kicks off Matt's month long vacation!!!

Yesterday we met up with Daddy at the Academy and watched the Plebes (freshman) climb the Herndon monument to replace the Plebe cover (hat) with the Midshipman cover. Legend goes, the person who reaches the top and replaces the cover will be the first in the class to make Admiral...kind of a fun story! This year was a little different. In previous years, the monument was greases with lard to make climbing just a little bit harder. For safety concerns, this year there was no grease. So....what normally takes 20 to 30 minutes, only took 2 minutes this year. It was still fun though! We finished off the night at the Sup's Garden Party - a chance to meet Matt's mids' families, and then off to the Men's Glee Club concert!

Today we headed out on the 'ole Island Girl from our spot on the Magothy over to the Severn to join the masses and watch the Blue Angels practice show. Jack LOVED watching the planes go by. Maybe we have a future Navy pilot...who knows! We followed up a great show with an even better dinner, ribs cooked to perfection by Chef Matt!

It's All About Jack....and BP2!

Well, as you can see, I changed the name of the blog a few weeks ago. I thought it was only fair to BP2 that the blog include all the Phillips, and not just Jack. This is BP2's premier on the blog!

Today, Matt and I went to the hospital in Bethesda for my 2nd trimester ultrasound. I am 22 weeks today. Unfortunately the BP2 wasn't as cooperative or photogenic as Jack (who turned his face to the ultrasound prob for each picture - it was almost hard to get one without his face!). He/She was in a breech position, all curled up, sitting directly on top of my bladder, which made the 24 oz of water I had just drank really really comfortable :). It took the tech quite a while to get all her measurements.

Again, as with Jack, we did not find out the sex. I think the tech was pretty happy about this because she would have been under a lot of pressure to get little BP2 to cooperate. She was able to get a picture of the face (sort of) and a picture of the foot. We did get to see the heart, legs(crossed like Jack always does), feet, arms, hands, head, and ears. The doctor reported back that all looked good! He/She is measuring 22 weeks and 3 days and weighs 1 lb, 2 oz. The pictures we did get are below.

Happy Mother's Day!

I think every day how lucky I am to have such a wonderful little man and a new one on the way! So happy to be a Mom today!

BP2 at 20 weeks

A new addition to the family!

Well, it was bound to happen sometime, right? Time to get rid of the college car and upgrade to the Mommy car. The poor Jetta was just a little too small for Jack, and definitely too small for Jack and BP2 (to be here in September). So, it was time to move on. On Saturday, we bid a teary goodbye to the Jetta and a welcome "Hi" (from Jack) to our new 2010 Ford Flex. It's a great car, lots of room, very comfy, and it has 4 sunroofs! Jack loves to look out the one over his carseat and watch the trees go by!

A Day on the Bay

Real life Jack in the box

Hey, where is the crank for the music?

A Whirlwind Trip...kind of literally!

Well, I owe you all an update...really need to post some of our recent activities!

Three weeks ago we took a "whirlwind" trip to Nashville for Matt to run the Rock n Roll Music City Marathon. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had some plans for the weekend that didn't go well with ours! There were major storms and tornadoes all through the south, so poor Matt only got to run a 23 mile marathon instead of a 26 mile one! At mile 21/22 they diverted him to the finish line. And we walked back to the hotel in the pouring rain! So, it was a whirlwind trip because we left Thursday (for an 11 hour drive) and got home Sunday night...and thanks to Mother Nature, because of the Tornadoes!

Before the rain started, Jack and I chilled at mile 10 to watch Daddy run by!

After the race we relaxed in our room - Daddy and Jack played and we enjoyed some delicious room service.
